A homer by Ted Simmons with two out in the 10th inning enabled the Cardinals to edge Braves, 6-5. The Braves had rallied to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth on a homer by Gary Matthews, single by Mike Lum, double by Barry Bonnell and two-run single by Pepe Frias.
