Staging a Garrison finish, the Cubs roared from behind with six runs in the ninth inning to overcome the Braves, 6-5. Dave Kingman led off the rally with a single and Steve Ontiveros walked. Two outs later, a pass to Ted Sizemore loaded the bases and brought Gene Garber on in relief of Larry McWilliams.

Tim Blackwell lined a two-run single to right and pinch-hitter Larry Biittner added a run with the single. Steve Dillard ran for Biittner and scored behind Blackwell when Bobby Murcer capped the explosion with a home run over the right field fence. [The Sporting News]
