Completing the three-game series sweep, the Mariners edged the Yankees, 6-5, rallying for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Julio Cruz started by drawing a one-out walk. After Bobby Valentine fanned, Tom Paciorek singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Joe Simpson. A walk to Leon Roberts loaded the sacks.

Ron Davis relieved Paul Mirabella on the mound for the Yankees and Willie Horton lined his first pitch to left for a single, scoring Cruz and Simpson. Horton reached second on the throw to the plate and after Ruppert Jones received an intentional base on balls, Dick Tidrow relieved Davis.
