Behind the brilliant relief pitching of Paul Moskau, who took over after Tom Seaver suffered a back sprain in the third inning, the Reds defeated the Cardinals, 5-1. A four-run fourth inning proved decisive for the Reds.

A walk to Johnny Bench and a double by Ray Knight tied the score at 1-1. Cesar Geronimo followed with a single and Moskau also singled to drive in his own deciding run. A single by Ken Griffey and double by Dave Concepcion added another pair. George Foster blasted a homer in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
