The Yankees exploded for five runs in the 11th inning to break a 7-7 tie and go on to a 12-8 victory over the Angels, snapping a five-game losing streak. Reggie Jackson led off the 11th with a walk, took second on a sacrifice and scored one out later on a single by Bucky Dent.

Consecutive singles by Willie Randolph, Juan Beniquez, Thurman Munson, Lou Piniella and Graig Nettles brought in four more runs. Tommy John relieved for the Yankees in the ninth, struck out Rod Carew and Don Baylor with a runner on second base and pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to gain the decision. [The Sporting News]
