Fred Lynn drove in two runs with a homer and another with a sacrifice fly and Carl Yastrzemski added a homer as the Red Sox defeated the Mariners, 5-3. Lynn's round-tripper followed a single by Rick Burleson in first inning.

The Mariners came back to tie the score with consecutive homers by Willie Horton and Ruppert Jones in the second, but a double by Jerry Remy, single by Burleson and Lynn's sacrifice fly put the Red Sox ahead again in the third. The Mariners reknotted the count in the sixth, but Yastrzemski decided the outcome with his homer in the Red Sox half. [The Sporting News]
