Starting his comeback, Mark Fidrych made his first appearance since April 17, 1978, and pitched four innings for the Tigers in an 8-4 victory over the Twins. The Bird allowed four hits and two runs while throwing 50 pitches.

Ron Jackson singled with two out in the second for the Twins' first hit. In the third, Rick Sofield walked and Roy Smalley tripled, and in the fourth Glenn Adams and Rob Wilfong hit doubles to account for the Twins' runs off Fidrych.
