Steve Carlton became the winningest lefthander in Phillie history (133 wins) as his teammates assaulted four San Diego pitchers for 13 hits and an 11-6 victory over the Padres. Carlton helped his own cause with an RBI single in the second inning. Larry Bowa's sacrifice fly plated another in sthe ame frame.
