After building up an early 7-0 lead, the Reds hung on to edge the Cubs, 8-7, when Dave Concepcion homered in the sixth inning for what proved to be the game-winning run. Concepcion also doubled and scored in the third and singled to drive in two of the Reds' five runs in the fourth. Bobby Murcer, Bill Buckner and Jerry Martin each batted in a pair for the Cubs.
