A two-run double by Pete Rose in the top of the 12th inning enabled the Phils to post a 9-8 victory over the Padres. Rudy Meoli walked to begin the winning rally. Meoli advanced to second on a sacrifice by Dave Rader and Bake McBride drew a walk.

Larry Bowa singled to left, but Meoli was cut down at the plate on Jerry Turner's throw to Bill Fahey. Rose then followed with his double. The Padres scored in the bottom of the 12th on a triple by Ozzie Smith and a single by Dan Briggs. [The Sporting News]
