A three-run outburst in the eighth inning lifted the White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Royals. The score was 2-2 entering the bottom of the eighth when Claudell Washington began the winning surge with a one-out single.

After Chet Lemon walked, Al Hrabosky replaced Paul Splittorff on the mound for the Royals and yielded an RBI single to pinch-hitter Eric Soderholm. Rusty Torres then singled in another run and Wayne Nordhagen knocked out Hrabosky with a single to drive home the inning's third counter. [The Sporting News]
