Completing the four-game series sweep, the Phillies edged the Padres, 3-2. Larry Bowa singled and Pete Rose doubled for a run in the first inning. Nino Espinosa helped himself with a run-scoring grounder in the second.

Bowa singled in the fifth, advanced to second on a groundout by Rose and tallied the Phils' deciding run on a single by Greg Luzinski. The victory was the Phillies' seventh in a row. Gaylord Perry hit a homer but absorbed the defeat. [The Sporting News]
