A double by Ted Simmons keyed a two-run seventh inning that gave the Cardinals a 3-1 victory over the Astros. The game was scoreless when Keith Hernandez stroked a one-out single.

Simmons brought Hernandez home with his two-bagger and then scored on a single by George Hendrick. The Redbirds added another run in the eighth when Ken Oberkfell singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice and tallied on a single by Garry Templeton. [The Sporting News]
