Clobbering five pitchers for 15 hits, the Phillies thumped the Giants, 12-3. Mike Schmidt paced the attack with a homer and single, plus three walks. His homer was a solo clout in the second inning.

The Phils scored three runs off reliever Tom Griffin in the sixth with the big hits being doubles by Garry Maddox and Jose Cardenal. They added five more in the eighth with a pinch-hit double by Del Unser driving in two tallies. [The Sporting News]
