Tightening their grip on first place in the N. L. West, the Reds whipped the Padres, 7-4, behind a solo homer by George Foster in the third inning and three RBIs by Dan Driessen. Foster's clout broke a 3-3 tie. Driessen's first-inning double plated one run and he drove in two more runs in the fourth with another two-base hit. [The Sporting News]
