The Yankees picked up a run on singles by Mickey Rivers, Roy White and Thurman Munson in the fifth and went ahead with two in the seventh on a bases-loaded single by Graig Nettles.

The Red Sox came back to win in their half. Dwight Evans led off with an infield hit, took second on a sacrifice by Gary Allenson and scored on a single by Jerry Remy, who took second on the throw.
