. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Led by Fred Lynn, who batted in two runs and scored one, the Red Sox edged the Yankees, 4-3. In the first inning, Rick Burleson singled and scored on a double by Lynn, who also crossed the plate on a single by Jim Rice. The Yankees picked up a run on singles by Mickey Rivers, Roy White and Thurman Munson in the fifth and went ahead with two in the seventh on a bases-loaded single by Graig Nettles.

The Red Sox came back to win in their half. Dwight Evans led off with an infield hit, took second on a sacrifice by Gary Allenson and scored on a single by Jerry Remy, who took second on the throw. Lynn then singled to drive in the deciding run. The Red Sox pulled off four double plays, all started by second baseman Remy. [The Sporting News]
