Supported by three homers, Floyd Bannister won a duel with Fergie Jenkins and pitched the Mariners to a 4-0 victory over the Rangers. Bannister gave up six hits, while Jenkins yielded only five. However, Jenkins' fate was decided when Julio Cruz led off the first inning with a homer.

Ruppert Jones, batting next, singled, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by Jim Sundberg and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bruce Bochte. Leon Roberts homered in the second inning and Jones hit his second inside-the-park homer of the season in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
