A homer by Von Joshua leading off the ninth inning triggered the Dodgers to a 6-4 triumph over the Reds. The score was 4-4 when Joshua connected off reliever Tom Hume. The Dodgers added another marker in the same inning when Derrel Thomas walked, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a pinch-single by Reggie Smith.

Don Sutton, who gained the decision with the help of Bob Welch, became the leading winner in Brooklyn-Los Angeles Dodgers' history with his 210th victory, one more than Don Drysdale. [The Sporting News]
