A two-run double by Steve Garvey highlighted a three-run outburst in the fifth inning that carried the Dodgers to a 4-2 triumph over the Padres. The Dodgers trailed, 2-1, entering the fifth but surged ahead on singles by Gary Thomasson and Bill Russell, Garvey's two-bagger and a single by Dusty Baker.
