Snapping their six-game losing streak, the Cubs won the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 9-7, but then dropped the nightcap to the Mets, 4-2. The Cubs counted six runs in the first three innings of the lidlifter, including two on a homer by Barry Foote and three that were unearned as the result of an error by Richie Hebner. Steve Ontiveros then homered with a man on base in the fifth and Scot Thompson iced the decision with a run-scoring single in the eighth. Hebner and Joel Youngblood each had two RBls for the Mets.
