The Dodgers tied their club record for most homers in one game with seven while piling up 20 hits in a 17-6 victory over the Reds. For a while in the eighth inning, players on both teams turned their attention from hitting baseballs to hitting one another as three different brawls broke out.

The Dodgers began their cannonading in the second inning with homers by Dusty Baker and Rick Sutcliffe. Joe Ferguson hit a three-run double in the third before the Dodgers resumed homer-hitting with two-run blasts by Steve Garvey and Gary Thomasson and a solo swat by Ferguson in the fourth.

Derrel Thomas joined the slugging procession with a leadoff drive in the sixth and Davey Lopes accounted for the Dodgers' seventh homer, connecting with two men on base. The Reds were able to counter the Dodgers' power with only one homer by Ken Griffey. [The Sporting News]
