Dense fog forced the umpires to call off the game between the Pirates and Mets with the score tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the 11th inning. After Joel Youngblood got a triple on a routine fly that Pirate left fielder Bill Robinson was unable to locate in the murk, the umpires stopped play with the hope that the fog would lift. However, after waiting 78 minutes, the game was called off.

It was replayed in its entirety at a later date, but the individual player statistics stand. The Pirates took a 3-1 lead in the eighth on a two-run pinch-homer by Mike Easler, triple by Omar Moreno and throwing error by Willie Montanez, but the Mets rallied to tie the score in the ninth with a single by Youngblood, double by Lee Mazzilli and single by John Stearns.
