After hitting three singles in the first game, Leon Roberts smashed a two-run homer in the second game to help the Mariners sweep a doubleheader with the Rangers, 3-2 and 5-3. In the opener, two walks and a single by Bruce Bochte produced the Mariners' initial run in the third inning. Other tallies followed in the fourth on singles by Dan Meyer, Roberts and Julio Cruz and an infield out by Larry Cox. The Rangers had a homer by Mike Jorgensen in the seventh before a rally for another run in the ninth was stopped by Shane Rawley, who gained his fifth save.

Roberts' homer in the second inning of the nightcap tied the score at 2-2. The Mariners went ahead with an unearned run on an error by Bump Wills in the third, and pushed over another run in the fifth when Ruppert Jones walked, stole second and Willie Horton singled. Bochte drove across an insurance run with a single in the ninth before Richie Zisk homered in the Rangers' half. [The Sporting News]
