Jumping on a hanging curve thrown by Jerry Koosman, Todd Cruz hit his first major league homer with a man on base in the eighth inning to carry the Royals to a 2-1 victory, completing the sweep of a three-game series with the Twins. Joe Zdeb doubled in the eighth and was thrown out at third on an attempted sacrifice bunt by U.L. Washington before Cruz surprised with his circuit clout.

Steve Busby handcuffed the Twins on six hits, but his bid for a shutout was ruined in the ninth when the Twins scored on singles by Ken Landreaux and Glenn Adams and a sacrifice fly by Mike Cubbage. [The Sporting News]
