Getting relief help from Sparky Lyle, Fergie Jenkins got credit for his sixth victory of the season as the Rangers posted a 5-2 decision over the Red Sox. A two-run homer by Al Oliver gave the Texans a first-inning lead.

After the Sox tied the score, Bump Wills singled to open the fifth frame, moved to third on an infield hit by Johnny Grubb and a throwing error by losing pitcher Steve Renko, and scored when Buddy Bell bounced into a double play.
