. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A pair of homers by Bobby Murcer and the first N. L. victory by Dick Tidrow highlighted the Cubs' 4-1 triumph over the Phillies. Murcer tied the score at 1-1 with a solo homer in the seventh inning and connected again in the ninth off reliever Ron Reed with Jerry Martin on base. The Cubs snapped the 1-1 tie in the eighth on a pinch-single by Sam Mejias, a forceout and a triple by Bill Buckner. Tidrow yielded only one run in five innings of relief. [The Sporting News]
