The A's rallied for two runs in the ninth inning and snapped the Tigers' six-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory. The A's were held to only three hits in the first eight frames, but put together a single by Dave Revering and double by Mario Guerrero for a run in the fourth to tie the score at 1-1. Jason Thompson homered in the seventh to put the Tigers ahead again. In the A's ninth, Larry Murray doubled, leading to the departure of Jack Billingham. After John Hiller relieved, Dwayne Murphy walked and Mitchell Page beat out a bunt to load the bases. Jim Essian then grounded into a double play as Murray scored the tying run. Hiller passed Revering to reload the bases before yielding the mound to Fernando Arroyo, who was tagged for the game-winning single by Guerrero. [The Sporting News] |
