A pinch-single by Dane Iorg with two out in the 11th inning climaxed a two-run rally by the Cardinals and defeated the Dodgers, 8-7. The Cardinals had two-run homers by Keith Hernandez and Ted Simmons in the early going, while Dave Lopes rapped a pair of solo swats for the Dodgers and Reggie Smith connected for the circuit with a man on base. The Dodgers tied the score at 6-6 in the ninth when Lopes walked with the bases loaded and went ahead in the 11th on a pass to Lopes and a double by Bill Russell.

In the Cards' half, after Hernandez and Simmons singled, Tony Scott smashed a drive off the wall, scoring Hernandez. Scott thought the ball had gone over the fence and was tagged out trotting into second. The Dodgers then passed Ken Reitz intentionally in a move that backfired when Iorg singled as a pinch-hitter for Mike Tyson. [The Sporting News]
