Ron LeFlore hit four singles and stole three bases, bringing his league-leading theft total to 26, as the Tigers sped past the A's, 9-3. Lance Parrish collected a double and two singles, driving in three runs.

Jim Essian homered for the A's in the fifth inning and Dave Revering batted in two runs with a single after Dave Tobik replaced Jack Morris with the bases loaded and none out in the eighth.
