With a Bat Night crowd of 43,893 on hand, the Astros edged the Expos, 2-1, when Jose Cruz walked in the eighth inning and pinch-hitter Denny Walling tripled. The Expos scored their run in the first on doubles by Warren Cromartie and Tony Perez.

The Astros' tying tally counted in the second when Art Howe doubled and Julio Gonzalez singled. Walling's winning triple boosted his pinch-hitting average to .417 on 5-for-12. [The Sporting News]
