A two-run homer by Butch Hobson in the second inning triggered the Red Sox to an 8-2 victory over the Twins. Hobson's blast followed a two-out single by Carl Yastrzemski.

The Red Sox added a run in the third on a triple by Gary Allenson and sacrifice fly by Rick Burleson. Burleson led off the sixth with a double and scored on a single by Carlton Fisk. Four more tallies in the seventh included a bases-loaded single by Fred Lynn. [The Sporting News]
