A two-out double in the eighth by Barry Evans spoiled Bruce Kison's bid for a no-hitter as the Pirates' righthander shut out the Padres, 7-0. Kison was a last-minute replacement for Don Robinson, who couldn't get loose in warm-up.

Bill Robinson hit two homers for the Pirates, the first coming in the opening inning with two mates aboard. His second circuit clout was a solo affair in the third frame. Dave Parker, Omar Moreno and Lee Lacy also clubbed round-trippers. [The Sporting News]
