Backed by a 12-hit attack, Craig Swan hurled the Mets to a 6-2 triumph over the Reds as Tom Seaver lost his third straight and failed to win in his last six starts. The Mets scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Frank Taveras and they added two more runs in the third on run-scoring singles by Lee Mazzilli and Richie Hebner.

The final three markers came in the ninth on solo homers by Steve Henderson and Joel Youngblood and an RBI double by Mazzilli. Seaver and Dan Driessen had homers to account for the Reds' runs. [The Sporting News]
