Going the distance for the first time this season, Larry Gura fired a three-hitter as the Royals upended the Yankees, 3-1. Amos Otis drew a two-out walk in the first inning, stole second and scored on a single by Darrell Porter.

Pete LaCock and Hal McRae opened the second with singles. Freddie Patek laid down a bunt single and when pitcher Luis Tiant threw wildly to first, LaCock scored and McRae reached third. A sacrifice fly by U.L. Washington then plated McRae. [The Sporting News]
