Willie Horton hit his 300th major league homer and Ruppert Jones also clouted a round-tripper to pace the Mariners to a 4-3 decision over the Tigers. Horton's swat came in the first inning and followed a double by Jones. Jones' circuit smash came in the fifth frame and tied the contest at 3-3.

The Mariners scored the winning run in the sixth. Horton stroked a leadoff single but was forced at second by Dan Meyer, who moved to third on a double by Leon Roberts and tallied on a sacrifice fly by Larry Cox. [The Sporting News]
