A pinch-single by Jim Spencer with two out in the ninth lifted the Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Twins. Graig Nettles opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Darryl Jones.

After Chris Chambliss walked, Mike Marshall replaced Jerry Koosman on the hill for the Twins. The Twins' ace reliever retired Roy White on a forceout before yielding Spencer's game-winning blow. [The Sporting News]
