Starting in place of Jim Palmer, who was scratched because of a sore right elbow, Sammy Stewart pitched a two-hitter as the Orioles defeated the Royals, 3-1. Al Cowens got both of the Royals' hits, including a homer in the fifth inning. The Orioles tied the score in their half on a walk to Gary Roenicke, single by Eddie Murray and sacrifice fly by Doug DeCinces. Royals' starter Steve Busby departed in the sixth inning and the Orioles took advantage of reliever Renie Martin's wildness to score two runs in the eighth. After two walks, a sacrifice bunt and an intentional pass loaded the bases, Roenicke came up next and lashed the winning single. [The Sporting News] |
