Mike Marshall retired the last four batters and picked up his 13th save of the season for the Twins, who defeated the Yankees, 4-1. Geoff Zahn, who started for the Twins, allowed only three hits, including a homer by Chris Chambliss for the Yankees' run, before being lifted after 5 1/3 innings.

Mike Bacsik relieved and ran into trouble with two out in the eighth when Lou Piniella and Graig Nettles singled. Marshall took over, retired Cliff Johnson on a fly to left and set the Yankees down in order in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
