After being held to three hits, Pittsburgh exploded for three runs on a pair of homers after two were out in the eighth inning to defeat the Giants, 3-2. John Curtis, pitching for the Giants, had a 2-0 lead before Omar Moreno ignited the Pirates' rally with a single. Willie Stargell then batted for Dale Berra and came through with a homer to tie the score. Dave Parker followed Stargell to the plate and also hit for the circuit to produce the winning run.
