The Cubs pushed across a run in the 10th inning to edge the Giants, 3-2. Bill Buckner started the winning rally with a single and, after Dave Kingman fouled out, went to third on a double by Bobby Murcer.

Jerry Martin received an intentional walk, but Steve Dillard spoiled the strategy by hitting a dribbler down the third base line which Darrell Evans was unable to field in time for a play at the plate. Bruce Sutter pitched hitless ball over the last two innings to gain his second victory of the season. [The Sporting News]
