A two-run homer by rookie Dave Edwards with two out in the seventh inning lifted the Twins to an 8-7 triumph over the Yankees. Ron Jackson began the Twins' seventh with a single. Two outs later, Edwards slugged his round-tripper to break a 6-6 tie.

The victory was credited to Pete Redfern, who hurled three innings of shutout relief. Mike Marshall picked up his 14th save in his 36th appearance despite yielding an eighth-inning run. [The Sporting News]
