Pitching a two-hitter, Craig Swan was rewarded with a victory when Frank Taveras tripled in the eighth inning and Lee Mazzilli singled to beat the Braves, 2-1. Mazzilli also drove in the Mets' initial run with a single in the first. Jeff Burroughs homered for the Braves' tally in the seventh.

Swan, who almost was hit by a pitch while trying to bunt in the fifth inning, whacked Phil Niekro in the head with a delivery when the Braves' starter came to bat in the sixth. Niekro was forced to leave the game for a pinch-runner. [The Sporting News]
