Ellis Valentine hit a two-run homer and also scored another time to pace the Expos to a 4-2 victory over the Astros. J.R. Richard was the Astros' loser, although striking out 11. Gary Carter, who had four of the Expos' nine hits, singled ahead of Valentine's homer in the second inning.

The Expos added a run in the third when Rodney Scott singled, stole second and scored on a single by Andre Dawson. Ross Grimsley and Elias Sosa gave up 10 hits between them to the Astros.
