A candidate for Comeback Player of the Year, Dave Lemanczyk brought his record to 7-3 by pitching the Blue Jays to a 3-2 victory over the A's. Last season, Lemanczyk won only four games while losing 14. Rico Carty singled in the second inning, stole second and scored the Blue Jays' first run on a single by Bob Bailor.

In the fifth, Danny Ainge doubled, Bob Davis was safe on a fielder's choice on a bunt and Alfredo Griffin singled to drive in Ainge. Davis, who stopped at second, moved to third on a bunt by Joe Cannon and scored what proved to be the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Rick Bosetti. Dwayne Murphy homered for the A's.
