Ageless wonder Willie McCovey hit his third homer in two games against the the Cardinals and the 516th of his career to spark the Giants to a 6-1 victory. John Curtis, who held Cards to five hits, pitched his first complete game since July 24, 1977.

McCovey connected for his round-tripper with a man on base in the third inning. The Giants also had a homer by Terry Whitfield. Rob Andrews drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies. [The Sporting News]
