The Expos smashed five homers in a 24-hit attack and walloped the Astros, 19-3. Joe Niekro, who had won nine straight decisions for the Astros, was handed his first setback since April 29. Tony Perez started the Expos' slugging with a two-run homer in the first inning. Ellis Valentine smacked a two-run double in the third and Larry Parrish followed with a homer. The Expos turned on the full power in the fourth with consecutive circuit clouts by Perez, Gary Carter and Valentine. Tommy Hutton added a two-run triple in the seventh. The Expos' 19 runs equaled the club record. [The Sporting News] |
