Two homers by Gorman Thomas, who drove in three runs, backed the pitching of Lary Sorensen as the Brewers defeated the Royals, 5-3. Sorensen turned in his 10th complete game of the season and 32nd to the credit of the Brewers' staff.

After Thomas' first homer of the game with a man on base in the first inning, the Brewers added a run on a single by Robin Yount, a stolen base and a double by Buck Martinez in the second. An unearned run followed in the seventh before Thomas capped the Brewers' scoring with his second circuit clout in the eighth. Steve Braun and Darrell Porter hit homers for the Royals.
