After Jerry Turner singled, Gene Tenace flied out, but Cards' center fielder Tony Scott threw wildly to enable Turner to race to third. Jay Johnstone plated the tie-breaking run with a groundout. An error by Mike Tyson on a foul fly gave Tenace extra life in the sixth and the Padre catcher followed with a sacrifice fly for what proved to be the decisive run. [The Sporting News]
