Mike Heath's second home run of the game, off reliever Al Hrabosky in the eighth, enabled the Athletics to defeat the Royals, 6-5, and end their eight-game losing streak. Heath, making his debut with the Athletics after being acquired from the Rangers, hit his first homer in the fourth.

The Athletics turned a triple play with Royals' runners at first and second in the sixth. Wayne Gross fielded a grounder from Al Cowens, tagged Darrell Porter, then threw to Mike Edwards at second.
