The Orioles captured their seventh straight victory and 13th in the last 14 games by downing the Tigers, 6-5, in dramatic fashion. Trailing 5-3 in the ninth, the Birds pulled to within a run on a homer by Ken Singleton, who had driven in a run with a single in the first and thrown out Ron LeFlore at the plate in the fifth.

After a single by Eddie Murray, Doug DeCinces hit a two-out homer to left off Dave Tobik. Sammy Stewart and Tippy Martinez pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless ball in relief of Mike Flanagan. [The Sporting News]
